Winemaker Notes

Les Chenevottes displays a beautiful richness and depth derived from the high clay content of the soils in which it is grown. Elegant and expressive, it is spicy with a toasted nut nuance, vanilla and pear on both the nose and the palate where a bracing acidity is present. The lengthy finish is clean and powerful leaving a lasting impression.

2015 was a very early vintage. Picking commenced on August 28th, which is sooner than usual, but this was the key to maintaining the freshness of the grapes. Winter was mild and wet, replenishing the water reserves which would become necessary later, as a hot, dry summer set in. The resulting wines have a good grip producing a round and rich palate.

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Chenevottes has a classic Chassagne bouquet with wet limestone and chalky scents coming through, much more uninhibited than the other premier crus from Philippe Colin. The palate is fresh and slightly chalky on the entry, crisp and tensile with plenty of energy and tension towards the finish, this would be one of my picks from this grower who seems to be getting better year upon year.
